Ey up, merhaba, hola, こんにちはand bună ziua!
I'm English by birth, a Yorkshireman at heart from Leeds, but having been around the block a little, I consider myself a part of wherever I happen to be. I graduated from a very classical tradition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 1999 on the cello, but wanting a break from the rigours of said classical world, I decided to get certification as an ESL teacher and run off to Japan to where the sun seems to never set. 5 and a half years there as an ESL teacher in two sessions, with a year in Spain and 6 months in Canada in between them, developed my skills and passion as a teacher, but also made me realise that music was what I really wanted to teach. Back to the UK to gain my teaching credential saw me teaching secondary and primary strings for a few years before wanting to get away onto the international scene yet again. Onto BISI in Istanbul, where I met my wife, had a baby and decided to grow up (a little). I spent 5 years in Istanbul, teaching music from 2 to 11 year olds, and can't wait to get started at AISB. I've led orchestras, directed various ensembles and choirs, and shown the stars of tomorrow how to rehearse a rock band properly. I look forward to some exciting projects at AISB. I love languages, and am looking forward to getting familiar with Romanian. I'm also very excited to get to know the rich and diverse music that Bucharest has to offer, and the great musicians that I shall meet and work with in AISB. And of course, I also very much look forward to making some music and collaborating with some folk of, shall we say, advanced years. I love hiking, cycling, swimming, running, and of course, music. La revedere! (O singură limbă nu ajunge niciodată!) |
